About Us-
I have been a creative person as long as I can remember. In school, I was regularly seen doodling in the margins of note books, maybe even a textbook or two. In spite of those creative tendencies I had never pursued anything artistic as a career or hobby. On December 15th, 2020, in the middle of COVID, I experienced a spontaneous retinal tear in my left eye. Four eye surgeries later I still have no functional vision in my left eye. Shadows, bits of light and distorted shapes is what 20/2500 vision looks like through my eye. During COVID shut down I spent months at a time recovering from surgeries. Recovery from retinal detachment surgery is uncomfortable to say the least. You must lie face down for 90% of your day several weeks at a time. To retain my sanity, I turned to videos online. I specifically found watching someone throw pottery to be very relaxing and meditative. I decided I was going to be in the first pottery class I could sign up for. And thus, the Half Blind Potter was born. I have learned that pottery is a humbling art form. There are many steps in this creative process. From throwing, to firing and glazing, you never know when something unexpected will happen, just like life.
